Raw Food Marathon Day Sixty Three

15km Race

After a brief 5.5 hours of broken sleep (all three of my young daughters ended up in our bedroom), I got up at 4:10am for a 6:11 am start and I managed to get a pre-race meal of two bananas in.

Lamphun is ~30km out from Chiang Mai, so I drove there, I know some competitors cycled there from Chiang Mai!

My plan was to set out at 7:30 pace and gradually bring it up to sub 7 minutes, which would achieve my 1:05-1:10 goal.

Like the midnight run I set off too fast again, albeit only 6:48 pace for the first mile. I backed off a bit for the next 4 miles and felt reasonable comfortable. The conditions were good, (daylight!) and not too warm, a little humid but nothing serious.

Miles 5 through to 9.21 were uncomfortable though :-( I ended up running the last two miles at almost long run pace, before finishing with a bit of a kick.

My heart rate shows why it was hard work. I didn't expect my HR to be so high, so early on, maybe mid 160s max. As you can see I hit 170 early on.

Lamphun 15km race

At least I managed to beat 1:10, but I was nowhere near my 1:06-1:07 which I hoped I'd run. More info here re the run.

All good fun though. The post race 'free' fruit was great, I gorged myself on watermelon.

T-shirt, medal and unlimited food for about 3.50GBP.

The race itself was very well organised; accurate km marker posts, drinks every couple of kms and police stopping traffic.

Next Sunday is the Doi Suthep 12km mountain race. Can't wait!
