Raw Food Marathon Day Forty Eight .
Bangkok Midnight Run
I ran in my first race for a while.
It's a fun event in Bangkok which kicks off at midnight. This year there were 4,000+ entrants for both the 6km and 12km races.
I knew I wasn't as fit as I was last year, but I was hoping to average better than 6:51 min miles for the 12km.
Apart from problems with my Forerunner 405 (picking up GPS) at the start (we start from an underground car park), I went off far too fast, swept along with the 6km runners. I was looking to run 7:15 for the first mile, I ended up running 6:30. My heart rate was very elevated within the first 2 minutes.
The last two miles were carnage, although I did manage a good sprint finish.
I remember having issues with my Garmin 305 last year with the GPS at the start. I think the race is actually 12km, however with the Auto pause/resume kicking in during the first mile, I suspect that's where I 'lost' 1/3 mile in distance. If I use the time over 12km, the average pace is 6:55 min/miles. Last year I ran 6:45 min/miles.
Anyway, it felt really good to run hard. My maximum heart rate was 185, average 171, I could/should have gone out slower, then ran faster mid-end miles.
What was great was the free watermelon at the end of the race :-)
