Race Pacing
This morning I took part in a local race in Chiang Mai, however strictly speaking I was not racing, more pace setting!
If you have been following my blog you will know that I am mentoring Ray Martin, who has entered the New York Marathon.
Today was his first race ever!
Although I was wearing my own HRM and Garmin 405, we matched each other stride for stride so the splits are very similar to Ray's.
Our target race pace was 9 minute miles. We went off a little bit fast during the first two miles (my fault), but managed to stay on target.
Mile 5 was tough for Ray, but he pulled through and finished in a time of 54:19 (5.99 miles).
Averaging 9:04 min/mile pace over 6 miles after only three weeks of running is pretty good going.
