Raw Food Diet and Running

Sunday March 9th 2008

My longest run to date of my London Marathon training. Twenty glorious miles running on Thailand's finest roads.

It is 5am, as usual with these early morning long runs I set off in almost pitch black darkness, careful to avoid the pack of hounds in the first mile that still think they're wild & free roaming in the woods as wolves! Thankfully it isn't too warm; I'm wearing a running vest, a Ron Hill glow in the dark vest and my North Face bladder pack. I soon warm up.

The aim of today's run was to not worry too much about time, just to feel strong throughout. Here's what happened mile by mile, heart beat by heart beat.

As ever I ran it as a negative split (first ten in 1:20:30, second ten in 1:16:40), gradually picking up the pace as the training run progressed.

Not a fast 20 miler, but I guess the point of these runs is to do 'long slow runs'. Coach reckons (by my heart rate), I'm still on for a 3:10 finish.

Easy week's training coming up, I have a 5k race (my first ever) on Saturday. My marathon trained legs won't know what's hit them!

Today I ate the following Raw Food...

Breakfast - 8 bananas, 1 cup blueberries, double dose of raw hemp protein powder, bok choy, vitamineral green powder, young coconut water
Lunch - two heads of lettuce, loads of tomatoes, parsley, celery, oranges + soaked seaweed kombu/wakame, organic soft tofu (280g) - I know I know it's not raw!!!
Dinner - 6 bananas, dose of hemp protein powder, bok choy, vitamineral green powder, young coconut water
Snacks - loads of bananas, dates, raisins, three Raw Revolution bars (watch that fat!).
