Seven days on from my dance with disaster I went for my first run. Would my toe hold up?
I strapped my little toe to its neighbour and hoped for the best. Only two miles. My plan was to run very slowly with a few injections of speed at marathon pace. However my legs had other ideas. Wot no heat?! I couldn't believe how easy it was to run. After running for over a year in temperatures always around 30degreesC it was a pure pleasure to run. I soon forgot the purpose of the run was to see how my toe felt.
So all seems OK. Two miles is obviously nothing like the marathon distance but I have no choice but to risk it.
Today I've been eating loads and loads of bananas along with bok choi (pak choi), romaine lettuce, tomatoes and a couple of Larabars.
For breakfast I'm going to have a large green smoothie about 3 hours before the race. During the marathon I will have 4 medjool dates and for emergencies a Larabar!
My revised goal is 3:10-3:30. The weather forecast is perfect. Can't wait.
